Juneteenth is th e oldest nationally-celebrated African American ho liday and commemoration\, through solemn reflectio n and joyous community gatherings. Juneteenth trac es its roots back to 1865 when the final order to follow the Emancipation Proclamation arrived in Te xas. It is a time not only to honor the end of sla very\, but also to celebrate Black history\, cultu re\, achievements\, and the ongoing journey toward racial equality. Join us for Crossroads with Rep. Rob Johnson to learn more about this important ho liday and the celebrations that surround it.

\n \nABOUT OUR PRESENTER | < strong>Rep. (and Rev.) Rob Johnson is a f aith leader\, community activist\, and mental heal th advocate who is known nationally for his birthd ay Gas Giveaway. Born and raised in the Dearborn H omes Housing projects of Chicago by a single mothe r of three\, Rob and his sisters learned the value of family and community from their mother. He is passionate about mental health issues as well as g etting communities involved in the political proce ss through voter engagement.
\n \nRob currently serves on multiple boards\, including Iowa Juneteenth\, Taste of the Junction\, Back 2 School Iowa\, Interfaith Allianc e of Iowa\, I’ll Make Me A World In Iowa\, and man y others.
\n \nCrossroads is a month ly gathering of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa in Des Moines.
