The ballot box was the original "glass ceiling." Women finally s hattered it when the 19th Amendment to the US Cons titution guaranteed them the legal right to vote.< /span>
\n \nThat remarkable seven-de cade struggle for women's suffrage\, led by many e xtraordinary leaders – especially Elizabeth Cady S tanton\, Alice Paul\, and Carrie Chapman Catt – tr ansformed American democracy\, even though that hi story is often omitted or barely mentioned in text books and classrooms.
\n \nDi scover how these women's personal lives shaped the ir public leadership\, and how their courage\, str ategy\, and determination gave us a legacy\, remin ding us that the right to vote is both a privilege and a responsibility. Today\, it's up to all of u s to use that power – and vote.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER | Mary Riche is a former press aide to a US Senator\, owner of a public relations fir m\, clinical social worker in private practice\, a nd long-time women’s rights advocate. She's a nati ve Iowan\; her BA and MSW are from the University of Iowa. Mary has been a resident of Des Moines si nce 1974.
