For our March Crossroads, join us to learn about book banning from the organization leading the fight against book bans in Iowa. Sara Hayden Parris, Founder and President of Annie's Foundation, will share the work the Foundation has done to push back against efforts to ban books in Iowa schools and public libraries. She'll provide an overview of recent legislation that affects library materials and help us understand what we can do to protect the freedom to read. We'll also celebrate some of the wins together!

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER: Sara Hayden Parris is the Founder and President of Annie's Foundation. Started in 2022, Annie's Foundation is dedicated to ensuring members of our community have unhindered access to books and characters that reflect the diversity and complexity of the world around them. Through the power of this grassroots effort, the Foundation  consisting of five Johnston moms – has handed out nearly 4,000 banned and challenged books and brought national attention to the overly broad Urbandale book ban list and the disappearance of Little Free Libraries on school property in the metro.

Sara has two sons in the Johnston school district and works at Iowa State University as the Associate Director of Student Health when she's not fighting for the freedom to read.

Crossroads is a monthly gathering of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa in Des Moines. It's an opportunity to learn, to participate in civil dialogue, and to discuss issues at the crossroads of religion and politics.
