Faithful Conversations about The 1619 Project
A free six-week series for communities of faith
MONDAYS at 6:30 PM, October 4 through November 8, 2021
We invite you to join with communities of faith across Iowa in faithful conversations about The 1619 Project. Slavery in the United States has been referenced as our “original sin.” Given that context and the fact that many communities of faith justified enslavement and benefited materially from it, or, on the flipside, worked for its elimination, it is critical the faith community intentionally study slavery and its lasting impact on the generations during and after.
Each week via live stream on YouTube, a group of faith leaders will discuss a section of the writings from The 1619 Project — doing so from their faith perspective. We encourage faith communities to host a small group(s) to read the sections ahead of time, watch and listen to the faith leader conversation, then hold their own conversation using the format and tools provided on the faithful-voices.org website.
By registering here, you will receive the live stream weblinks for the weekly faith leader discussions which can be viewed Monday evenings at 6:30 PM (live) or anytime during the week on the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa YouTube channel. This Faithful Conversations series is a wonderful opportunity to enter into some good, rich, thought-provoking conversations on the history of race and racism in our nation and its impact on communities today.
