Plymouth Congregational Church, Des Moines
** in-person event **
Since 2019, Just Voices Iowa has been building a platform to educate, collaborate, and advocate to end racially-biased and unjust policing. This local non-profit has spent years collecting and analyzing police data and sharing the stories of residents harmed by the Des Moines police. They also publish in-depth research on racially-disparate marijuana enforcement and have chronicled the many protests during the Summer of 2020 in Des Moines ("The People's History"). As a direct result of their work, together with others in the racial justice advocacy network, some key changes have been made to policing in Des Moines. But much more work remains to be done. At the October Crossroads, we'll learn about the victories and challenges Just Voices Iowa has had along the way, as well as the current state of law enforcement in Des Moines as the city seeks to appoint the next police chief — who they hope will champion sweeping and progressive changes.
You may make your reservation to attend in-person (with lunch) by clicking on the "Register Now" button.
