Intersections | Journalism in Troubled Times

December 6, 2019 ** 11:45 AM-1:00 PM ** First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids

Presenter: MELISSA TULLY, Associate Professor, University of Iowa School of Journalism

In a day when journalists are attacked by the President as an "enemy of the people," when they are accused of presenting "fake news," and when they are killed in countries around the world, how do journalists and journalism schools respond? Our December Intersections will focus on the role of journalists and journalism schools in our convoluted media and political environment. It will also address the role of audiences to be savvy news consumers capable of navigating the murky media ecosystem.

Melissa Tully (PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. She teaches classes on digital and social media and conducts research related to news literacy and engagement on social media in the U.S. and Kenya.
