Amendment 1: Vote NO

Kylie Spies, Senior Policy Advocate, Common Good Iowa
Melissa Peterson, Legislative and Policy Director, Iowa State Education Association

On Election Day, Iowans will decide on Amendment 1, a constitutional amendment intended to raise the bar in the Iowa Legislature from a simple majority vote to a two-thirds supermajority vote to increase the corporate and personal income taxes.

Amendment 1 would lock in a decade's worth of tax cuts skewed to the wealthy — making it tough to fix our state's $1billion budget deficit without cutting funding for public schools, health care, and other services that Iowans expect, much less tackling growing priorities like water quality.

Join Kylie Spies of Common Good Iowa and Melissa Peterson of the Iowa State Education Association to learn how Amendment 1 would rig the rules against building a fair tax system where corporations and the rich pay their fair share.

There are three ways to attend Crossroads. Registration is required for all three:

  • Attend in person (with lunch) by clicking here. Four bag lunch sandwich options are available for $15: turkey, roast beef, ham salad, and vegetarian. You must pre-order and pay for your lunch by 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14. Late orders or walk-in requests for lunch will not be available.
  • Attend in person (no lunch) by clicking here. There is no cost for this option, but we must have your RSVP to ensure we have enough seating.
  • Watch via YouTube by clicking here. This online presentation will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel.

Bad Faith 2026
BAD FAITH 2026

BAD FAITH 2026 is a documentary that explores the dangerous rise of Christian nationalism in American politics. The film reveals the secretive political machinery that has relentlessly sought to weaken and destroy American democracy in order to promote its authoritarian vision.

Sponsored by Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, all four showings of BAD FAITH 2026 begin at 6:30 PM and are free and open to the public. Please share this information with others and plan to attend!
