Exploring the dynamics of domestic terrorism: A comprehensive analysis and response strategies

Presenter:
Diogenes Ayala
Emergency Management & Homeland Security Director
Madison County, Iowa

Our February presentation offers an in-depth exploration of the ever-changing landscape of domestic terrorism. This discussion delves into the intricate frameworks that define domestic terrorism, providing real-world examples and dissecting the role of misinformation in propagating these threats. Participants will engage in a critical discussion on the impact and reach of domestic terrorism while learning practical measures for enhancing security, focusing on developing situational awareness and skills for identifying suspicious items to safeguard facilities and communities. This Crossroads is designed to equip attendees with both theoretical understanding and actionable strategies to effectively address and mitigate the risks associated with domestic terrorism.

Music-making in prisons

Presenter:
Mary L. Cohen, Ph.D.
Author; Associate Professor of Music Education, University of Iowa

“On its own, prison is profoundly isolating and drives counter-social behavior. Integrating music, specifically, offers a tangible experience of the value of resonance over dissonance. Music-making is a communal act that drives pro-social behavior.” ~Little Village magazine

Join us for Intersections in March as Mary Cohen, author and Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Iowa, shares her experience and expertise around the role music-making can play in achieving goals of accountability and healing – and in challenging the widespread assumption that prisons and punishment keep societies safe.

There are three ways to attend Intersections. Registration is required for all three:
